Anioma is firmly integrated into Nigeria’s formal financial system, with all major commercial banks operating fully functional branches across its urban centres. Towns such as Asaba, Agbor, Ogwashi-Uku, Kwale, Issele-Uku, and Obiaruku host branches of top-tier institutions including Zenith Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Fidelity Bank, Union Bank, GTBank, Ecobank, and others. Notably, Anioma has produced some of Nigeria’s most influential figures in banking and finance, visionaries who have shaped both national and continental financial landscapes.
Tony O. Elumelu, an illustrious son of Anioma, is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings and United Bank for Africa (UBA). Jim Ovia, founder of Zenith Bank, has been pivotal in revolutionizing Nigeria’s banking sector with innovation and digital transformation. Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is also from Anioma. Major General Lucky Irabor (rtd), the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, though from the military, indirectly supports investors’ confidence and economic resilience.
